Current Award Categories
The Canadian Nursing Students’ Association holds a partnership with the Canadian Nurses Foundation for awards selection and distribution. The Canadian Nursing Students’ Association is responsible for creating the awards and criteria, whereas the Canadian Nurses Foundation manages and administers the fund and scholarship.
Applicants must be enrolled in a Canadian Nursing Students’ Association chapter school in good standing.
Please note these awards are not available to current Canadian Nursing Students’ Association Board members
Current Awards
Community Involvement Award
Available to students who are currently working within their local, regional or national community. This can include but is not limited to: harm reduction, health promotion and advocacy for vulnerable populations.

Impact Award
Available to students who have participated and had a clear impact in promoting Canadian Nursing Students’ Association activities, objectives and goals and creating an impact to the nursing profession through the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association outside of class requirements. This advocacy work may include promoting Canadian Nursing Students’ Association activities to students and stakeholders, encouraging involvement and leadership opportunities within Canadian Nursing Students’ Association, influencing local/regional/national health policy change through Canadian Nursing Students’ Association, facilitating an inspiring workshop at Canadian Nursing Students’ Association events, etc.

Mental health Award
Available to students who are currently working in advocacy in mental health as related to your journey, education, practice and future profession outside of class requirements and can be volunteer experience.

Registered Psychiatric Nursing Award
Available to students who are registered Psychiatric Nurses.

Diversability/Disability Award
Available to students who self-identify as having a diversability and/or disability and are currently enrolled in a RPN, LPN, or RN program. You must submit a 500-word essay detailing your experiences as a nursing student with a diversability and/or disability (positive or negative).

Student Clinical Excellence Award
Available to students currently working in clinical nursing. This work can be completed both in clinical practice settings and/or in the classroom/virtual learning environment, where you are able to demonstrate proficiency in clinical nursing skills and ways of knowing.

Education & Research Award
Available to students currently working within areas of education and/or research outside of class requirements. Examples of achievements in education and research may include research projects surrounding concurrent nursing topics, advocating for nursing curriculum advancements, or participation in continued learning opportunities outside of the classroom, such as certification in specialty areas.

Environmental Stewardship Award
Available to students promoting environmental stewardship practice outside of class requirements. This advocacy work may include promoting positive environmentally-responsible actions through education on waste reduction and energy consumption practices. You may refer to the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association 2016 Position Statement on Environmental Stewardship and Implications on Human Health for further guidance on this practice.

Parents in Nursing Award
Available to students who are parents. Applicants should demonstrate in their application the unique challenges a parent faces in nursing school.

2SLGBTQ+ Award
Available to students who self-identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and are currently enrolled in a RPN, LPN, or RN program. You must submit a 500-word essay detailing your experiences as a 2SLGBTQ+ nursing student (positive or negative).

BIPOC Nursing Award
Available to students who identify as part of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) community, and are currently enrolled in a RPN, LPN, or RN program. You must submit a 500-word essay outlining your financial need as well as your displays of leadership in nursing or your community, or explain any barriers that have prevented your involvement and describe what change would you make if in a position of leadership.
