Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a member?

Most students who are members of the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association are members because their school is a Chapter Member. If you attend one of our Chapter Member schools then you are a member of the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association. If you would like to get more involved with us, you can contact your school’s Official Delegate. If you are not sure who your Official Delegate is, please contact the appropriate Regional Director.

If you are not a student at a Chapter Member school, contact your Regional Director to find out how you can become a member and how you can help your school become a Chapter Member!

What can you do for me?

The Canadian Nursing Students’ Association is the official voice of nursing students in Canada. We represent students and their interests to the government, healthcare organizations, and to the media. We are dedicated to providing opportunities to its nursing student members. We can:

  • Provide an opportunity for participating members to acquire and demonstrate leadership and organizational skills

  • Increase students’ awareness of relevant political and ethical issues which will affect their future as health care professionals

  • Prepare students for active membership within professional nursing associations

  • Provide insight into the business, procedures and policies of professional organizations

  • Provide opportunities for involvement in health care issues and health promotion

  • Offer exposure to changing nursing philosophies and specialty areas of nursing

How can I get involved?

There are many ways to become involved with the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association. The easiest way to start getting involved is to attend a local chapter meeting and talk with your Official and Associate Delegates about how to become involved at your school. You can also join one of our many identity-based caucuses.

Attending a Regional or National Conference is a great next step to becoming involved. At the Regional or National Conferences, you will get to meet and interact with other members from across the country. When you attend a conference, try to attend either the Regional Executive meetings or the National Assembly. At these meetings, you will get to see how we really work! Check out our upcoming conferences here.

Running for a position as an Associate or Official delegate, or a position on the Board of Directors is a great way to become very involved. By doing so, you will be representing students at your school or even students from across the country. Elections for Board of Director positions occur every year at National Conference. Election processes for Official/Associate delegates vary from school to school.
